what rifle would you get if you were wanting another big game rifle, deer n elk as the main things on the table.

I have 270 sportman 78 its plain jane cheap stock with 700 action nesles in it, the rile is my go to rifle. has been for years. it took my first mule deer, my elk and lots of deer inbetween. I got leo 3-9 topping.

I also have 25.06 a ruger in walnut stock with blued acftion sporting a 24" barrel. the rifle was packed around this year. its a fine shooter and has takn more coyotes and badges then anyof my other rifles. I also packed it deer hunting this year even though it was realy set up as a deer kinda of rifle, it has a 16 power sightron on it, I consider that overkill for deer hunting where shots are closer then 300yds where the high power glass is just extra weight. I love tghe feel of this rifle, almost wish it was 270.

last on the list is ruger I beam stainles 30.06 that I dont care much for but wont be getn rid of it becaue I got a good deal on it and may someday want the extra grunt it provides.

okay yeah Im gona end up with few calibers doing the same thing but I dont care, I want another 270, I was looking into the winchester featherweights, 270win and 270wsm. both are good calibers and I think I almost have to get the wsm to stay away from haveing a double caliber.

the rem mtn rifles dont look bad and are tad lighter but they sport a shoter pencil barrel where ass the winchesters look like they hold the stander taper. the remington BDL SS DM may be another option but isnt realy my style, I love laminated and walnut stocks in blued or stainless.

so if you had the cash 700 bucks for just rifle what would you get minus the scope since youd have a few around the house. Im leaning towards the winchester line.

thankx

At least you have the 270 to help make your decision on the WSM.
Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't get a 300 win mag instead of the WSM to get 2" of barrel and better heavy bullet use.

That's a hard choice. Featherweight is pretty, Classic Laminated WSM has a sleek look, both are controlled round. Coyote is a medium weight barrel laminate, is 9lbs (which I like) and as long as you get a 2003 model is the new controlled round push feed in WSM. Classic Ultimate Shadow is controlled round dump box, Super Shadow is controlled round push feed blind box, both are very light synthetic and IMO, very ugly.

It sounds like you're already on a WSM (which I agree, I think it's a waste to have two rifles in the same caliber and action type). Some type of wood leaves you with the Feather weight, Classic Laminate or Coyote. After that I would decide based on my desired weight and price tag, hopefully you won't run into a conflict there like I have.

Just say the hell with it and get a Custom Carbon for only $3,000 :D

I went in the gunshop today, it happens to be right next door to our lumber yard. I fondled the featherweight in a 300wsm and it feels realy good. they didnt have 270wsm and from the way they talked it looks like itl be awhile till they see one. I told him when I get a couple hundred bucks Ill kinda do a laway deal and throw towards the rifle. wich goes for 600, that way its not realy a layway plan more like a rifle saveing account. then when its payed for I will have a rifle 270wsm or 300wsm
no I take that back Im not getting a 300, Im fixed on teh 270.
