I have hunted with a buddy a few times who has an electronic caller. I would like to learn how to call, but I don't know which calls are good and which to avoid. I have called a lot of elk and have found some reed calls will not work well after being blown on a few times and getting wet with spit. Any info you guys could give me would be helpful.

Hey Hammer, I would suggest starting with a Crit'r Call Standard or Pee Wee. Very easy to use and doesnt lock up very easily if at all.

Hello Lonehowl! Good to see you over here. I agree with you in regard to the Crit'r calls too.
Guys,
Lonehowl makes some nice custom calls too. I should know because I own one of the buggers.:)

Hammer Down & Lone Howl,
The Crit-R-Call is a great predator call. Another call that is very easy to operate and that produces award winning predator calling sounds is the Calls-M-All game call. The Calls-M-All has been featured on TV hunting programs where the operator using it are 6-7 year old kids. You may want to consider it. Another great characteristic to it is the fact that the reed won't stick or freeze when exposed to harsh weather conditions. You can actually submerge the entire call into a bucket of water, pull it out while the water is flowing off of it and make a perfect call while it's drenched. Check it out at www.gamecall.net. Retails for $10 bucks. Good calling!
