I just bought a Remington 30 06 model 7600 and it is shooting 150 grain Rem. core locks great. Ive hunted with a Marlin 30 30 for years using core lock bullets and they never let me down. I was thinking of trying Winchester silver tips but wanted to get some advice. Most of my shots will be under 100 yards in the woods, but we have some clear cut land and its possible to take a 400 yard shot. I will be hunting whitetail deer only, and wanted to see what you would recommend.

Either one of the bullets that you have nebtioned will do a good job and have for a good many years. I would suggest that you be sure to shoot them on the range at the distances you have mentioned to make sure that you sight in the rifle for a 200 yard zero and then shoot it farther out to determine the bullet drop out to 300 yards. I just don't really like to suggest shooting deer out to 400 yards as I don't think there are allot of hunters that can shoot accurately at that range and feel that there is to much of a chance of just wounding an animal.

I agree with Handloader and beside"s not to many 7600's will shoot well anuff to do a good job a 400 yds, let alone the shooter.

As for the bullet, use what shoots best in you rifle, they are both good.

If the rifle is capable of minute of deer and the shooter is capable of hitting where he aims, the Remington CoreLokt bullet is up to the task. The largest buck i've ever taken field dressed over 300 pounds. He fell in his tracks to single shot from a 7-08 with a factory 140gr CoreLokt. When I buy bullets, I pick up Nosler Partitions and Ballistic Tips, Hornady Interlocks, Sierra Game Kings, and a couple hundred Remington CoreLokts. Although I hunt with the Partitions, I shoot everything, and I know the CoreLokts work and would be confident to use them for deer in place of anything.

First, congrats...I LOVE the 30.06 (hence why I have THREE! :D )

I agree with consensus...either will work, but you must find which your GUN likes not you! I do however feel that silvertips are more 'bottom-end' ammo and while they can be accurate, I do not feel that the KE transfer is nearly as high as the other options.

Personally, I shoot three different bullets (for hunting puposes...many more for the range!) in my three different guns. My WOC is my '03 Springfield and it LOVES the Remmington Bronze-tip in 150gr! These are similar to the polymer-ballistic tip bullets, however they employ a bronze "plunger" for EXTREMELY rapid (but controlled!) expansion and really seem to maximize energy transfer. I have tried heavier versions, but this particular weapon lends to the 150's!

Good luck...!
