Here in IL our archery season ends on 1/16/2003. When does it end in your area?

How did your season go? I did not get one with bow this year. I let 3 little ones pass early on. ::big Then during shotgun season I shot 2 so I don't need any more meat this year. Therefore, I quit bow hunting.

By the way, both of my shotgun deer were taken right at 20 yards. All of that time in the woods for archery and no good opportunities. [cont] I guess that's why they call it hunting and not just killing.

Well im here in IL with you. This being the last weekend to hunt.I'll be out trying to fill my last either sex tag.I've been holding out wanting to take a big mature buck.Couple weeks back i took a fellow board member out with me to the timber and set him up.I went in 100 yds deeper.I had nine doe's come under me i took the last one and stayed in the stand.About a hour later.A huge 12 pt was just hanging up inside the thickets.I would of had only a marginal shot so i waited him out at full draw what seemed to be a eternity.Just when he started coming out.My buddy released on one of the does i let walk an hour earlier.Missed and hit a tree. The twack spooked the buck and he whirled around and back into the thickets.
Hopfully i get a crack at him this weekend.
Otherwise i've taken 5 doe's,a Russian Boar.Bull Elk this season.
If we could just get some snow up here.I would like to get after the yotes.

Hey Mossyhorns,

I really hope you get that monster buck. Any one that will sit out in a tree in these extreme cold & windy conditions truly deserves a trophy.

GOOD LUCK

Our season here in NY ended in dec. I did not get out much this year as am truck driver and been over the road with little time home plus had some family health issues. Hope next year to have a job that is local and not as many hours so I can have more time for all the things I like to do. The few times I got out saw some nice deer but not close enough to shoot, if I had time to scout and pick spots would probably been more productive. At least I got out a few times and had chance to relax.

I haven't shot anything yet but our season doesn't end to Feb 28........

I saw a couple of huge bucks at the first of the season......then come duck season, I have done much deer hunting since.

But since duck season sucks, I'm breaking out the bow again.

My son has killed 3 this season with his rifle......so I haven't needed any meat.

BTW, this year was the first time for him to kill a deer and he mopped up! ::rasp)

Archerrg,

I understand not having the time. Last year I quit one of my jobs. Before that I had been working 90+ hours a week. The wife & kids didn't like that. Now money is a littel tight, but we have more time together.

ARMallardSlayer,

Tell your son way to go! Is this his 1st year hunting, or just the first time that he killed one? How old is he?

ARMallardSlayer,

That is awsome. My boy is 9 & he passed his hunter saftey course this year & got a license. He has been on a couple of squirrel hunts & some coon hunts. I just love to see the kids bringing on our sport.
