What is a 30-40 craig, and am I saying this right? I'm just curios as to what it is. I have heard it was an old military rifle used around the spanish American war era. I appreciate any and all info I can get.

Hey Vern,
As for the .30/40, it is actually the .30/40 Krag (pronounced Craig, I believe). Yes, it was/is an old military cartridge that was used by Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders at the Battle of San Juan Hill. It is also the immediate predecessor of the US .30 caliber (.30/06) in the O3A3 Springfields and 1917 Enfields. "Back in the day", it was somewhat of a "new and improved" version and step up from the .30/30 Winchester cartridge. Ballistacally speaking, in the old blackpowder cartridge days, it was/is very similar to the .30/30 Win. cartridge. Hope this helps you Vern.
