I traded for a 220 Swift yesterday and don't know much about it. I was actually in the market for a 223 or a 22-250, but couldn't turn down the deal on this. Ruger M77 Mark II Wood with Blue Barrel, looks like its seen very little action. Great Shape. I have about 275 invested in it. I think I found a good deal. Can anyone tell me a little about this caliber. It will be used mostly for prarie dogs, coyotes, and some target practice when we get moved to wyoming. I'm looking to reload it when I get set up to do so. Also, any input on the differences in reloading equipment (brands) would be welcome as well. I am leaning toward an RCBS Rockcrusher, and a Lyman Crusher 2. Thanks Guys, Happy Hunting!

dkale5 I think you got a very good deal on the Ruger . I use to shoot the 220 swift and everybody used to say you could shoot the barrels out .but I never did . I'm shooting a 22-250 and 22-250AI now ,one sporter and a custom varmit rifle.
I think both of the reloaders you mentioned are good . I use a rockchucker press for almost all my reloading ,but the first press I ever loaded on was a Lyman . Good hunting with the new toy.

dkale,

I am w/rojo, you got a good deal on the Ruger. As for the reloading equipment, they are both good presses. I also use the Rockchucker press that rojo talked about as well. As for the ol' Swift, they are screamers and well suited for varmits, I shot one for some time in a custom #1 Ruger that I had acquired. The only draw back that is inherent to the .220 is that they suffer somewhat in the accuracy department and can be a little on the finicky side at times. I went back to the .22/250 and .223 after I couldn't get my .220 to shoot to suit me. However, I have seen a few .220's that were darn accurate as well. Don't let this bother you. The .220 is a mean varmit cartridge, and as long as you watch your loads you shouldn't have any trouble wearing out the barrels either. Good luck w/your new rig and keep us posted on how she does.
