So how about it? I like my .44's and would like to use them more. Any suggestions for loading them for varmints?

I have a 7.5" Redhawk, a 10" Contender and a Marlin 1894 lever action.

Any recommendations on bullets for the use.

Not a whole lot of choices, but how about Sierras 180gr JHC. Probably give you a bit more range to work with.

I would load some thing like 200-240gr bullets and use what ever shot best in my gun. I have shot bullets as heavy as 265grs on coyote with the 44mag and it works on elk down to rock chucks. ;) outlaw

yup whatever shoots best.

last year i shot canguroo rat and some ground squrels iwht my 7.5" 44mag

sometimes you have to wait for the dust to settle to see if you connected. other times all you have to do is hit within a few inches of the little critter and they tip over. ;)

I would use whatever you shoot the most accurately.I have hunted varmints as well and can assure you what ever you use it'll be fine. I cast my KT 255 gr. using 22 gr.of 2400 or 24 gr. of 296 and believe me I have made some incredible shots that if no one was with me to see it,people would think of me as many have of Elmer Keith with his 600 yard shot at a Mule deer

Anyway,good luck and have fun

Yea, I have shot Rock Chucks with a hot loaded 45 colt, its alot of fun to sneek up as close as you can and peek over to get a shot at an unawear chuck and make a clean kill. Can't get anuff of it. Outlaw ;bang_em

Plainsman,

Howya doin?

In your Contender you can use a Fairly Pointed bullet (if ya can find any?)

The 1894 needs Blunt nosed bullets do to Tubular magazine

The REDHAWK can have most anything (not too long though) so it doesn't jam
cylinder!

As the others said 180's for 'chucks 200 to 225 for Deer & 250 & up for Big bear,Elk & Moose

If I had a ontender in .357 Mag ,I'd Use Hornady's 180 SSP Spire Pt. or Speer 180 over 33 Gr. RE 7 Have a Machinist Friend Make a Point Forming die
to use on Barnes' XPB(Any weight) or form a semi point from any bulletfor Contender Have fun & Be safe!! ;bang_em
