Hey Tony, I just bought a new 300wsm about a month ago....and love it. It is a very smooth shooting gun.. I bought a Browning A-bolt Medallion. I did some research on that round and was very impressed with the ballistics. I like the short action, and have had good luck with it. Only disadvantages I see is that the mag only holds 3 rounds, vs 4, and the ammo it little more expensive. But as everything else, the ammo will come down and it becomes more popular, and It only take one shot. Love it. Good Choice!!!

I got mine primarily as a lighter weight gun(than my 300win) for hunting from horseback in the mountains. Yes I dig it and it will continue to be my rifle of choice for hunting "out west." I live in Missouri where I usuallyy use my 300win or 270win out of permemnent stands.

OK thanks guys, thanks for the couple of well rounded(no pun intended) answers.
Guess I thought there would be more opinions out there.
Looks like to me it may be the next 308 but not replacing it,just good solid accuracy and power in a short, light package. Thanks again guys..........................Tony

A guy that I know picked one up from Walley World in a winchester push feed, black gun with a 3x9 bushnell scope. All for $ 389.95. Said it shot very well and was a light weight rifle and he's taking it to Idaho to hunt elk in sept.03!!!??? But that he would put on a Leupold scope before then. Outlaw

Tony,
I am also a 300wsm owner and am very pleased with mine. I have a Browning A bolt stalker. It shoots factory and realoads very well. For a 6 plus pound gun it shoots like a dream. Best group of three shots has been under .500 with nosler bullets. So far 6 shots in the field and 5 boars and a buck are to show for it. It is my new faviorite rifle!! Seems to have the best advantages with 130 -180 grn bullets.

Thanks for the comeback. Sounds like a lot of fellers are happy with theirs,I hear some even buy the ammo and dont have the gun yet! I guess that is what you call commitment. I'm thinking about the M70 Featherweight, sure looks purdy.Well gotta run now ,thanks again..............Tony

Tony,
I have a m70 stainless in 300 wsm, have had it just over a year now. 4 monthst after buying it I sold my trusty 270 because I knew I would never use it again. this round will do everything. In the field I have 4 shots 4 kills, 2 wild pigs and 2 yotes, all with the 150 gr BST, tlak about flat and fast! I have also won at a local high power rifle shoot with this rifle. Took it deer hunting last fall but never found anything with enough points on thier head. Factory ammo is becoming more and more available and tons of reloading info for it on all the reloading sites. You won't be disapointed, go for it. Oh ya I have a Weaver grand slam 3-10x40 scope. That has worked out perfect as well.

I bought some 270wsm ammo, but dont have a rifle yet. I was hard set on m70 featherweight but now Im debateing between it and m70stainless. and 300wsm, cause i already have a 270win. but the 270wsm will more then likly win when it comes time to bring a rifle home. im seeing it as coyote to elk critter getter you can also say the same for the 300

Thanks, got the mag. Picked up a M70 Classic Featherweight. Some of the most beautiful factory walnut I have seen in a long time. A rich chocolate with the featherweight scroll checkering. might just look at it instead of shooting it.
From what I read in the article, looks like it is an outstanding choice for all around hunting.
Thanks to all for your help and since I am a Winchester fan anyway, it wasn't too hard to convince me. B)

PS
medicboy, I don't blame you for leaving the 270 behind,I'm sure Jack O'conner would have done the same.
I got a burris compact for the fatboy,it looks and feels very well balanced. Thanks for the input.

Thanks DRAKECALLER..............
Picked up some factory 180's,and 150's, and a bag of win emptys. It'll be a while,I've got some team driving practice and on call every third week. Daughter wants to go to range too, maybe she can keep on me and it will be sooner :D I do some reloading, mostly the reg mil rounds. Has anyone just neck resized? On the fatboys? I have tons of 165's and win powders for the 308,they'll have to do for now. Has anyone used the LEE collet sizing dies? They sound interesting. Let me know,

I was wondering the same thing... Why did you only shoot 19? And you do have a fat boy, just has a different father.

DickPal,and Bob. I just kinda like having one round in my pocket so when talk to someone about it I can also show them the ammo. I got 60 rounds when I got the gun on the 5th of July up in Montana,so I still have 41 rounds left. I would like to end up with at least 100 rounds of once fired brass before I get the dies to start reloading. That won't be until this coming winter after hunting season. Until then I'll just shoot the Rem factory 165gr load. Thanks Outlaw

Evan good job. Now that I have a 300wsm in the Tikka I'm going to bring this back to the top and see if it will come up with any new info. As far as my 300wsm go'es it shoot better them the Rem model 7 300saum did ,weights less, better feeling and fit. It flatter shooting also and I really like the Tikka even if they use the standard size action for all the Tikka T3's they have to save money somewhere. I love it and I only paid $459.99 for it. The Rem was $675 when I got it.
Thanks Outlaw
