Ive been considering getn a hornet for its moderate ranges and abilty to handload.

I think I remeber somewhere that you had one, in ruger maybe? if so how do you like and how does it perform with your loads if your loadn for it.

anyones else. with hornet info from any rifle make chime in.

Im just lookn for somehting to tide me over till I can get 17 ammo.

ive been kickn around 223 hornet 222 221 basicaly all smaller 224 calibers. kinda decided I dont need 22/250 and up class of rocket launchers got my 25.06 for that.

I just want something I can plink at stuff with at the 200yd mark or maybe 300 depnding on how the calibers ability.
what about that hornaday bullet that comes apart in flight if its movn faster than 3500fps. thats the bullet i wanna be shootn the SX or something. if it comes aprt in flight it must be doozy of squrel bullet at slower speeds.

anyways this is me just blabbering again. if I buy somethin i dont know. either way Id like to hear from you all

Evan try www.midsouthshooters.com and you should be able to get your ammo from them ,17 hmr Hornady is listed at $7.72 a box. They also have CCI ammo .at $7.66 .
I have a 22hornet in the nef handi-rifle but it isnt what I would call a 2-3 hundred yard gun by any means . I also have the 218 Bee which is a bit faster but still not a 300 yard gun . I would suggest you go with a 223 Rem or above if you are looking for more range . Thats what I use most of the time .

223 is also easier to load than a Hornet. Hornet brass is very thin.

got my 25.06 for long range thumpn,

midsouth shooters is on back order. 11weeks to 3 months out on all 17 hrm orders.

I wouldnt be plinkn that far with a hornet. probly alittle over the 100yd range. if that

though 223 would be almost ideal

thankx for the imput.

Evan, the hornet is sweet, but if I had to do it over I would just go with the 223rem. and be done with it. Outlaw

but yeah ill probly get 223 or 222 probly 222 just for the heck of haven something difrent.

Problem with something different is availability of ammo.

I bet I could get .223 ammo just about everywhere in the world (especially in Iraq :) ).

LOL, I was just at the gun shop looking at 17hmr. They only had one box of ammo they wouldn't sell, it was just to show to people :)

They have lots of guns in 17hmr but can't get the ammo :)

tell me about it, I found 3 boxes of 17hrm yesterday but I had to drive 200 miles to do it. gete this, the guy had 20 boxes I wanted them all told him id give 2 bucks a box over his list price. he still would only sell me 3 boxes.

17hrm is way to acurate and fun to shoot to sit at home lonely

17 hmr is available here in sokaliphornia but $12.00 per box and is available from hornady and CCI.

i too have the NEF .22 hornet handi-rifle an' the flippin' ammo is $33.00 per 50 rd box!!!! (a trip to my local gunshop and purchasing the dies will reduce that)

Don , Cabelas sells 22 hornet ammo for $22.99 a box of fifty . Try www.cabelas.com and they could save you some change . I reload for my 218 Bee and it runs about $6.50 to load a box . Should be about the same for the Hornet . The 218 bee over the counter , runs $50.00 bucks a box . If you don't reload you really have to love that one to own one .
