Just wondered if anybody here is a wildcatter. Im planning a longterm project myself and would love to here some stories you guys might have to share about the topic.

Right now, all I have in the way of wildcat cartridges is a 20BR. I also have a 7-08AI, but I've already ordered my M1999 stainless short action with the magnum bolt face and follower for an 8mmSST (Lazzeroni Galaxy necked down to 8mm) and plan on building a 6-250AI shortly, too.

The only wildcat I've ever had was a 338 REN,it was a 280 rem case blown out and necked up to 338,shot within 100fps of the win 338mag with about 10gr less powder. Nice round but just to much fuss for this reloader. Outlaw

Im guessing necking up is the fuss, seems its a bit more work than necking brass down.
Personally Ive been toying around with the idea of a .257WSM. I love the quarter bore, and the WSM seems to be the way to go with brass. Id like to push that little pill right up to the limit. Only problem is I dont think I can get a Remmy 700 boltface that will work with the WSM brass. Theres the SAUM brass for the 700, but Im not too shure about them. The SAUM hasnt had the rave reviews that the WSM has had, and it could eventually go the way of the dinosaur. It would suck to invest a couple thousand dollars into a rifle then a few years down the road have trouble finding brass for it.
Tell me a little about that 20BR SST.

The 20BR is simply a 6mmBR case necked down to .20 caliber, with the shoulder angle changed to 35 degrees. It will shoot 33gr Hornady V-Max at over 4400fps, and is very accurate.

the long ranger,
I agree with you pardner! :) 257WSM would be hard to pass up. I have a .257 Ackley that I built on short action Mauser that I love, but fireformed brass is expensive.

SST, Tell me what you plan to get out of the Lazz. case necked to 8. My son and I just built an 8x300wsm on a standard 700 Rem action with a Mag bolt face chambered originally for the Wherby 7mm Mag.
This necked up case is something. Were realizing 3150 fps with various 200 grn. 8 mm bullets using H4831SC. Both Sierra and Hornady 220`s are a bit over 3000 fps. with RL-22. Excellent accuracy. Barrel is a 26 inch PAC-NOR stanless, all mounted in a laminated stock.
We built the rifle for Elk, and designed the chamber round the 220 Sierra. So far, we`re very happy with the results.
