I plink with heavy barrel ruger 10/22T its rugers stainless .920 bull barrel, laminated stock, 3-12x50 bsa classic, and millet angle lock rings.
Ive takn all kinds of game with this, ground squrels, rattle snakes, starlings, fox, magpie, crow, dirt clumps and lots sage brush.
its shoots some tight groups with its favoured ammo and is acurate enough to hit ground squrels out to 70plus yards on a calm day.

Ive also got a remington viper 22lr, this is the cheapest rimfire rifle Ive layed hands on. I despise it so much that I always forget ive even got it. but it was my frist rimfire and has been with me on some fun days.

my latest rifle is the my ruger 77/17 walnut stock, blues 22" barrel. this has a simmons 2.8-10x44 aetec scope on it. timney trigger slicked down to 2.1lbs. this thing is real beauty to shoot. big rifle feel little plinking power to 175yds with little to no hold over. but it shoulda been a 22mag, cause I never get to shoot it as often is I like due to the ammo situation right now.

add these to my centerfires and its wonder I ever find time to shoot them all, wich I dont.

lets here what rimfires ok and centerfires you have that you love to shoot and plink with. the one center fire that has grown with me overe my others is the 25.06, Ive done more varminting than hunting with it. but I plan to change all that this bear deer and elk season. its gona take all 3. that is if I can get off my lazy but and start workin up some beefier loads that shoot well.

Im just board and typn so you do the same ifn you feel like it

thankx

I can't really say I like plinking with my 22lr's, they just doen't give me what I'm wanting. Although the 77/22 is a good big rifle feeling rimfire so at least it is good practice.

It's good if I want to go out and shoot until I'm so sick of shooting that I won't go out for a month, or it's really good if I'm in the mood to do a lot of shooting and figure the neighbors may not be in the same mood.

For plinking I'd rather use my .223. Although a muzzle loader under a shade tree makes for a nice laid back day of shooting.
I enjoyed plinking with my 30-06 until I got the barrel good and broken in. I'm sure it will be the same with the .223. That's just how I am. Once they get broken in I move on to the next one. I plan on the next one to be a 300WSM, now that will do some plinking @black

I plan on a 17hmr but that won't be until I see more brands and weights of ammo and a cheaper price. It doesn't cost me any more to reload for my centerfires.

Mostly for me rimfires serve the purpose of getting over a flinch should I pick one up.

I hear ya.

I think my next plinker will be 270wsm. I do quite a bit of plinking around the house. and would miss out on alot of shooting if I didnt have a 22lr of some short to thin the pests alittle. but your right. theres isnt realy anything quite like plinking with decent center fire .224 a rimfire just isnt the same.

as far as plinking with bigger stuff. Ive tried plinkn with 30.06 but could never do it with a passion

As long as I'm not getting bruised I don't mind recoil (which is why I like heavier rifles). It must not be the recoil that I'm wanting because @12-13lbs my .223 has none.
Shooting prone with my 30-06 bounces me around from head to toe but it doesn't give me a bruise so I'll do it all day long.

I think the 22lr lacks the accuracy that I want.
If I could do some one hole targets @100yds with 22lr I would probably enjoy going out with a box of 500 more than I do. But baseball sized groups from a good bagged rest doesn't let me know if the shooter (me) is doing his job when practicing positions.
That's why I think if they bring the cost of 17hmr down cheaper than I can reload .223's I will switch to plinking with a rimfire.

When I was picking up my '06 at Wal*Mart I ran into a duck hunting friend. He asked why I was getting one since we can't really hunt with them here. I told him "Plinking".

you might want to check into cooper or kimber rifles for 100yds shooting with 22lr, these are very acurate. before leaveing the to the distributor they shoot .25" groups at 50yds.

22mag may be a way to go to

My 77/22 does really good even with the cheap bulk ammo boxes.
If I could only get it to push them closer to 2000fps it would probably be accurate enough for me :)

I bought a cheap Marlin semi-auto that I shot a few times and gave up on.

I have a Marlin 22 LR and 22 Mag.Those two are my plickin guns. From sparrows to squirrels and water filled pop cans. And even the pesty goffer in the back yard.
Sometimes a buddy and myself compete with each other on who can drive more nails at 35 yds from a rest.Tightest groupings ect....
I can't say i real do any plicking with the centerfires.I take them out and shoot them make sure thier still zeroed in,blow up a milk jug or two. Then clean them and put them back in the cabinet till the next time out.
I do like like shooting the muzzleloader alot.Working with differant sabots and loads.Shooting 90 gr of pyrodex powder and a 240 gr 44 sabot for the 50 cal.Ican enlarge holes at 100 yds.Thats the best load i have worked up yet with that sabot.I order the power belts and going to work with them.See what they will shoot like.Them 385 gr buffalo Bullets(conicals) have some recoil to them when you get up to 120 grs of powder. And they sure tear up wooden 4x4's in a hurry..LOL

i have numerous .22 rimfire and centerfire rifles and like to shoot them all but the most accurate i have is the cz 452 in the heavy barrel singleshot mode. it is definitely a "tack driver" ... i also have the .17 HMR in the NEF heavy barrel which is accurate but i do not have the scope sighted in completely as of yet. another "favorite" i have is a rem 510 i had the barrel cut to 16 and 1/2" and scope mounts put on it and it is in the near tack driver catagory. i also have a rem model 69 i may do some "modifications" to in the future.

incidently, is there any one else manufacturing the .17 HMR ammo other than CCI and hornady?

:) :) :)

I guess I have always kind of had a passion for Rimfires. Maybe it is still the kid in me or something.

I have had more different .22 LR Handguns over the past 15 years than I would care to admit to. Having an Indoor Shooting Range in town does that to a fellow. However I have not had nearly as many Rimfire Rifles.

The most accurate .22 LR Rifle have had was a Ruger K77/22VBZ (actually had 3 of them over the years). They take a little tweaking, but can be made to shoot quite easily. The last one I had would print consistant 3/8" 5 shot groups at 50 yards when fed it's prefered ammo. I used this one in Rimfire Bench Rest Competition (an E-Mail League put on by a Rimfire Forum). I never did win anything with it, but I sure had fun trying.

Currently my favorite Rimfire Gun is a Super 14 Match Grade T/C Contender Handgun in .22 LR. This one replaced the above mentioned Ruger. I have the Contender outfitted with a Burris 3x12x32mm LER Fine Plex-PA Handgun Scope with Target Turrets. I had Burris modify the AO for me so it will parallax down to the 50 foot distance at our Indoor Shooting Range. I am totally pleased with the Contender, but am still searching for the PERFECT ammo to feed it.

In our Bench Rest Competition we shoot the USBR Target. The 10 Ring on this target measures .100". To score a 10 the bullet hole must touch the 10 Ring. To score an X the Bullet Hole must totally obliterate the 10 ring so no part of it is visible. With the Contender (both Indoors at 50 feet and outdoors at 25 yards) I seem to be stuck in a rut. The last 3 months I have shot the same exact score, 247-10x. However at the Indoor Range last winter I did manage a couple 250-10x scores and a 249-11x.

Yep I do like Rimfires, I feel I can shoot them all day long, the USBR Target offers me enough challange, and the ammo doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.
