Has anybody been getting out in the timbers doing any scouting?
I just love getting out in the early morning. With the heavy due and being able to smell the damp bark and foliage in the air. This morning a buddy drove down and we headed out.Got into the timber. And the farmer cut paths
out.So it made for some quite walking. We got to within 30 yds of several does(4-5) at differant times.Even spotted 8 turkeys at about 50 yds.
At the back end of the timber there is a mostly dried up creek bed, with a couple of deep holes that hold water for awhile after a rain.A corn field 100 yds from that with a 20 foot wide fence line so thick a rabbit wouldn't go.So this will be stand site #1.I got the trail cam up there too.

We did a little bear hunting / scouting trip today and it was great to get out .Seen quite a bit of bear sign and was lucky enough to see a few good bucks at the same time . any day spent in the woods is a plus in my opinion. Rojo

Yes i have been going out in the early morning hours. The temps been in the high 60's and low 70's in the AM.I have seen many does and turkeys,no racks yet.but i know they are there.
Just a matter of time, and they show their selves. You wouldn't want to catch and ship me one of your bears from over there. So i can hunt one this year would you??
Heck while your at it through in a Mulie and a Antelope.

Well i dragged my butt out of bed at 6:30 am and hit the timber.Backpack and chain on stand in hand.I had been raining lightly most of the night. My first thought was to head for the water hole in the old creekbed. But something drew me in the other direction.Just had that gut feeling go that way...So that way i went.I followed the bottoms to where a ravine rises up.And sat on my knees for a few just looking over the area. After about 5 minutes i caught some movement to my left just starting to crest the top of the ridge, headed in my direction. Not 35 yds from where i sat he strolled by.A 10 pt and i'm guessing in the upper 130 class. The excitement and anticipation i was feeling is what makes it all worth it in the end.
So after i let him pass and disappear.I chose a spot nessled in a oak tree 20 yds from a intersecting trail where i had watched him travel through.
Hopefully everything will come togather early season.Just a mear 4 weeks away
