What are you members shooting this year for broadheards.

I have tried so many differant type heads out in the past.By far my favorite are the cut on impact heads(4 bladed). But i still buy something differant every year to try out. This year it's the Montec's G5.It's a three bladed all one piece constructed head.Very strong and durable blades. And pin point accuracy. They also have an identical head w/o the razor sharp edge for target and sighting. And i also got the Magnus coi 4 bladed heads. They don't seem to fly as good as the Montecs but still are a good strong head.

Hi Mossyhorns,

Great question. I'm using Wasp Jackhammers. They are mechanical broadheads.

I used to use differnt fixed blades until I suddenly had a problem tuning it right before opening day that I had off of work. They used to shoot fine out of my OLD, OLD bow. But my rubber flipper rest cracked so I put on a spring flapper. The field points shot just fine, but we coulnd't get the broad heads tuned.

That is when I finally tried the mechanicals. It has been 2yrs. now, this will be my 3rd. So far I have taken a medium doe about 80-90 lbs., and a button buck and they have preformed extremly well. Never broken a blade yet, and with the large (1 3/4" I think) cutting hole, neither deer went over 20 yards. In both cases, as I was doing an autopsy  it appeared that the mechanicals opened up imediatly after entering the skin & did major damage to the vitals. The doe was actually with my OLD bow that would barley shoot 200 ft./sec. and the Jackhammers preformed flawlessly.

I have been told that they are not strong enough for a big buck, or a hog, or other larger game, but until I have a problem I will continue to use them. They have worked so well, I have a hard time believing they won't get the job done.

I was given a three pack of them tcoop. But haven't hunted with them yet myself. My buddy corey(a soon to be member)Took a doe last year with them. And left a massive wound.Deer had to bled out within 20 yds.
I had bad experiances with them(mechanicals) when they first hit the market.I type kicked sideways when shooting a quartering away deer. And didnt penatrate well. But i recovered it later. Two does i hit in a row with another type didnt even open.Just punched inside and sealed the entrance wound.Didn't find one of those deer.
But i realize they have come a long way since then. And much better preformance out of them.Maybe i'll give them a try this season too.

I used these Thunderhead100s last year for the first time and late season I took a doe alittle too high hit bone on the way in (sounded like I hit a brick) and another going out. All 3 of the blades were still intact and the body is still straight and usable. I'm sure they were not the most expensive (I'm cheap!) So thats what I'm packing now! :D Now that I said that I'll probably have one roll over on a rib or something

I use Sattelite 100gr 3 blade.
But I'm debating on going to mechanicals. I've been hearing a lot of stories like Tcoop's about quick drops and after getting a double lung hit but the buck still went about 150 yards (100yd by the way the crow flies), I'm thinking maybe if I cut the lungs completely in half it will convince them they are dead quicker.

I don't think this deer was breathing (no blood in the nose, no foam on the ground) but with the stories and now this I'm almost convinced to make the switch.

What I'd really like since I've never had a problem getting broadheads to fly like field points is the BuckBlasters. Fixed blade with 3" mechanicals all in one. Too bad they come in 125gr only.

MYK,

I have some replacement blades for the Satellites for you when we get together. I'll never use them again.

As long as they're for the 100grs I'll use them. I also have some 125's but unless I ever bowhunt moose I'll never use those arrows again and I have a bunch plus some replacements.

I was just digging around trying to find blades worth resharpening (so my left hand and part of my arm is clean shaven :) ).

The heads were 125 grains, but I thought all the replacement blades were the same.

Me too, until I sharpened 6 of my replacement blades to only find they didn't fit :( (another reason why my arm is hairless :) )

I actually liked the 125 design better which is another reason I'm thinking of switching. I know the deer I shot with my old bow bled a lot more than the this last one.
