Well i furgured if i went out in these 80 degree temps and get a buck.Thats quite a feat.I'm not patting myself on the shoulder now.But i did it.
Yet i decided to wait till morning to finish tracking him.And hope the coyotes don't get him first. In all the excitement in think he was a 8 pt.I set my grunt tube to young buck gave two grunts and waited about 10 minutes and he come out of the bedding area to within 10 yds. When the Montec head struck home.Hope to be posting some pic's or video clips tomarrow with the story.

Bummer having to leave him overnight in these temps. I hope you get to him while he's still good and it's a little cooler up there. Good luck.
I've got to wrap the last of my steaks and grind the burger. I almost turned on the AC because the meat was getting too warm too fast while working on it during the day.
On one hand I'm ready to go out again but on the other I don't feel like butchering another deer yet, especially in this heat.

Hey Mossy,
Way to go buddy!! I don't think I would leave him all night if I were you. Even if it was this late (10:PM NOW) I would go after him. It is just too warm. If you leave him without gutting him, there is a good chance it will spoil. Are you not sure about the shot that you decided to leave him? Wish I was closer, I would come and help you track him.

No i didn't get the hit on him i wish i had.I hit him in the lower front of the neck. The shaft buried in him pretty deep. And i had good blood, but not a lung hit.I gave him awhile last night before trailing him. Then the blood started dwindling down. And after about 100 yds.I decided to let him sit.Not a easy decision to make.Worried about the temps and coyotes and possible rain that was forcasted for sat.So i took another buddy Dartonman from realtree forums hunting with me this morning.(he hunted till 9:30 while i searched alone)Then we both searched till noon. And i had to give up.
On a good note i did have to go into some bedding areas to see if the buck had slipped into there. And kicked up another buck 150 yds from the stand i hunted from.He has to go in the 150 or better class, 25-26 in spread. But i'm still feelin pretty sick over loseing a nice buck.I just can't see how he could survive that hit.
Dartonman said he had seen about 30 deer that morning and stuck a doe.So we had a good 1/2 mile drag with one deer.

I know how you feel. Early on in bowhunting I had a bad hit that with the amount of blood I figure she had to have died. She went into the same huge weed field that this year's buck went to and I never could find her. I almost quit bowhunting over that and I think I did stop bowhunting for that year.

Well i'm not happy with myself thats for sure.As a bowhunter i feel one needs to take only sure kill shots. And i am admitting i took one i probably should of held out longer for.I had a quartering to me shot and i tried to put it between the front chest and shoulder.I've seen that shot taken.Thought i could do it.At 10 yds i felt it was a good angle. But either the arrow hit high or he ducked which i didn't see him do.And it stuck more in the neck then chest.but was angleing downward. And i had hoped i would cut up vitals as he ran off as they usually do with out complete pass throughs.I can bet a pay check the coyotes will get him dead or alive.

Hey Mossy,
Any one who has deer hunted long, will eventually lose a deer, as hard as we try to prevent it. I have lost 2 since I started hunting in 1982, and both were to shotgun, not bow. I have taken over 50 (not sure of the exact amount, I lost track in the mid 30's).
One was a trophy buck that I shot in the rain. I literally watched the good blood trail disappear in the pouring rain.
The other was a nice doe that had an incredible blood trail. Looked like someone sprayed it out of a garden hose. We trailed that deer from mid afternoon until 1:00 am, up and down huge ravines, and through heavy cover. It is hard to belive that a deer has that much blood, let a lone has the strength to run that far loosing that much.
So I know how you feel, but as long as you did your best, let it go and go get another.
