snagged a use ruger super redhawk, in 44mag, stainless with a 7.5" barrel

it also happens to be #237 of 550 national rifle asciation pistols. its got gold bead sights, more like rifle sites than pistol stuff.

Im gon toss some kinda handgun scope in low low power on it and do some big game hunting with it this year.

but fo now its going bear hunting with me. for that just in case close shot at 50yds.

shot some football sized rocks at 50yds last night, I was pleasntly impressed at how well it shoots. yeah back to rocks again.

itsl also a kickn motha, I have freind with vaguro in 45lc and i used to think that thing had some recoil. well this is 2 times what that was. at first i was holding it wrong and getn the sore palm. then i was suddenly instructed on shooting from police friend of mine and it all seemed to come together. what a difrence the proper hold and grip makes when shooting a pistol.

anyways what glass would you guess recomend , i was thinkn something as low as 1 power firxed or variable from 1-3 if they make such a thing. with the widest objective i can fit. yeah I test fitted 3-9 leo on it and it just wont go with the fron site on the barrel, plus I wouldn even dare to hold it 4" from my eye and sqeeze the trigger. you all would probly hear the thud as it his my face from miles away.

Im kinda excited, its the first pistol ive got that seems like it was a worthwhile buy. Im gona practice and pracice on paper till i m confident then ill pack it and it alone on a few deer hunts this year, geard towards the thick timber stuff.

thats whats going on with me and my rifles.

I mean pistol

Congrats Evan, that should make you a fine hunting handgun. Yep .44's can and do recoil, but they are quite managable with proper technique and loads.

As per the Handgun Scope. In variables, the scope with the largest field of view and largest objective available is the 2x7x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope. This scope (like a few of the fixed 2x versions) has a 21 foot field of view at 100 yards. The 2x7x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope is also quite user friendly, and has good crsip, clear optics. The 2.5x8x32mm Leupold EER Handgun Scope is also an excellent scope, but Leupold lists the field of view at 2.5x as 14 feet, so it is less than the 2x7x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope in this respect.

I have also used straight 2x Leupolds on Ruger Redhawk .44's in the past, and this too is a good option. The 2x Leupolds offer excellent optics in about the most compact size available in a Handgun Scope. From time to time I see used 2x Leupolds advertised on the various classifieds on the net in the neighborhood of $125.00 - $135.00.

Good luck with the Redhawk, the .44 Magnum truly is a very versatile cartridge.

larry thanks for the reply.

Ill look into the burris ler scope, that sounds like what im lookin for.

I think ive opend up hole new can worms with this new hunting firearm over half thte deer of shot to date could have been downed with this pistol, mostly because most shots have been within a hundred yards, id like to take big buck with it. staulk it till im in range of 50-75yds if not closer for a clean kill with the 44.

not sure id feel confident usen it on elk, it would have to be close for me close like 10yds close for me to send 44mag bullet from handgun at an elk.

thankx again.

Evan,

Try the Burris 1X-XER (www.burrisoptics.com). Look under "compact scopes" in their on line catalog. I've got one that I have used on everything from 22's to my 480 Ruger, and it handles it all.

Evan,

It isn't a good rock buster, since it's just a 22LR; but you could whack a pebble with it at 50 yards with no problems!

I DON'T have one of everything, but I'm working on it. Now, my wife thinks I have one of everything and two of several. It gets back to that old discussion we had about "wanting" and "needing" new shooting toys. I could quit collecting 'em right now and have everything I "need" in the area of shooting. But I want more; one of each; two of most. It's a gun collector thing. My wife doesn't understand.
