Well I finally scoped my Ruger Super Redhawk. I was a little skeptical about the $139.99 scope I put on it but I've fired well over 100 rds through it and it has not messed up yet. I used a SWIFT 2x20 and I'm really impressed by it's clarity and being able to take the recoil. Plus the warranty on these scopes is great. If it screws up you take it to a SWIFT dealer and the give you a new one!! Oh, by the the way. My SRH loves those 260 grain Winchester Supremes. Can't wait till deer season!!!

Hey Evan,
My 454 is a 7 1/2 in barrell as well. You can't go wrong with the 44 mag.
I killed a doe with a 6 1/2 inch barrelled Smith and Wesson last season and thats what got me hooked on this handgun huntin thing. I shot her with open sights at about 60 yards and she didn't run but about 20. Shot her straight through the lungs and the 44 did the job!!! You don't have to scope a handgun but I sure like putting crosshairs on them whitetails. I like a red dot too!!! Good luck with that 44 mag.

I have a Freedom Arms 454 Premier grade and its a joy to shoot. The 300 grainers are a good choice for anything, but would prefer a little bigger. Garrett and Buffalo Bore are good starters for the big stuff. The little 240's are accurate and still have enough punch at longer ranges.
I am a big fan of the .44's,but after shootin' them for over 35 years and shot out one barrel on my old model Ruger,I thought I would like something a bit more. I also, bought recently a 500 S&W,but haven't dies for it to ring it out yet. It is also a joy to shoot. I did try the Cor-Bon 440's and they were fun and will be a good load for big game such as Elk and Bear.

Hi guys, my brothergot a 454 in the Super Red Hawk about a month ago. Nice gun. He put a red dot sight on it,work well. He loads for both the 454 and the 45 Colt.
Not be be left out myself I picked up a 45 Colt in a 7.5 BlackHawk. I have loaded up some 250 HP XTP's with a hot load of H4227. Jumps good and seems to shoot good also.
Needs a set of larger grips soon,my hands are not that big but those little wood grips that come on the Blackhawk just don't cutt it. ;) Outlaw

::blues Just thought I'd say a little about thr 454. Mine happens to be the Freedon Arms Premier and it is a joy to shoot. It is very accurate and also very comfortable as well. All those that say it kicks, its all in their heads. I love my grips as like all single actions,it rolls in your hand and really absorbs any recoil. Get used to the gun and you'll really enjoy it. I happened to have small hands and it is very comfortable.
Just thought I'd add a little about my BFR 500 S&W. I took it out to wring out some loads. I loaded up some 440 grain Cast Performance lead bullets, with 38 grains of H110 and after about 8 or 9 nine rounds the ejector housing, spring and rod went flying. So, I guess I'll be shipping it back to Magnum Research. I've seen this happen to my friends Suoer Blackhawk Hunter 3 times. After the 3rd time they sent him a brand new one. Both his and mine happen to be stainless. Go figure.
I have put well over 100,000 rounds of full house loads thru all my .44's (Old Model .44 Super B-hawks) and never had a problem.......oh well.
Have fun shootin' !!!!

BigBore, I have shot my brothers 454 Ruger Super Redhawk, its a cake walk. It does have a very nice grip unlike my cowboy type grip on the BlackHawk. I don't have any trouble shooting off hand but off the bench I don't care for it that much.
In as I like to wring out diff loads with use of a bench rest until I find the load that shoots the best,I'll pick up a set of larger grips thank you very much. Its not that I haven't been shooting Big Bore handguns myself for a few years.
I picked up my first 44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk in 1971 and have had among others 357mag-41mag- 44mag- 45Colt- In Smith&Wesson as well as Rugers then there was a 30-30 T/C along with a T/C in 22 Hornet. Had alot of fun along the way.Have taken Rock Chucks, Coyotes,Deer,Black Bear, Elk, MT. Goat and smaller game over the years.
I like having a handgun along while scouting or hiking the hills and not having to pack a rifle when its hunting season. Hear in Idaho as you mite well know we can hunt anything and everything with a handgun.
Life would be duller if one was not able to have at least one Big Bore Handgun!

im gona follow electricman's lead and get the 454 7.5" super read hauwk myself for my idaho big game hunting revolver. i like the looks of the black hawk and the scope mountes to the barrel but i cant stand how the grips and curved handle feel. the super red hawk just fits me much better.
have you looked at the super red hawk alaskan, come in 454 and 480 it is the super red hawk cut off at the end of the exstended frame, barrel lenght is 2.5"
the alaskan is my one reason for getn the 7.5" version in 454, i want both revolvers in the same caliber i like the idea of pushn 45colt loads through the smaller revolver
