Outlaw I just got my 17 rem fireball i got it in a remington sps varmint. But so far i've only shot 12 rounds through it i'm only shooting some factory load right now. But they are still very fast I shot two over my chonogragh at 4134 and 4140. And it put them in the same hole at 100 yds.

The guy at the gun shop told me that you can push the fireball to 6200 that's a blink of an eye.

CSA, not to sure about 6200 fps. Sounds like a story? I have'nt seen anything on the reloading info? But over 4000 fps is fast a nuff.:^

Thanks jerry im glad to be here. I got to test my fireball out yestday evening when me and a buddy went calling i am very impressed. The 20grain factory loads that im shooting done the job at 200 yards but what i liked the most was that i wacthed the coyote drop and the cross hairs never moved. I just wish i could find some brass for it because ever were i've looked is out or on back order.

I have had a Remington 700 LS 221 Fireball w/ Burris 4-16 X scope for a few years. Last year I got a Remington Mdl 700 CDL SF Limited Ed 17 Fireball w/ Leupold 6-18 X scope. I glass bedded the action , free floated the barrel ,adjusted the trigger pull down to about three pounds and had a gunsmith lapp the bolt locking lugs on the 221 Fireball rifle. The only tune up I gave to the 17 Fireball was to adjust the trigger pull pull down to about three pounds and free float the barrel. Reloading data for the Fireball rifle is in Hodgdon's 2008 Annual Manual RELOADING and http:data.hodgdon.com My best load for the 17 Fireball is using the Hornady 25 Gr Spire HP bullet with 19.0 Gr (MAX) Benchmark powder in Remington cases with Federal GM 205 primers. MV 3850 Ft/Sec....I have not tried out any other bullets in the 17.... My 221 Fireball load is using Hornady V-Max 40 Gr bullet with 18.6 Gr of Re 7 powder in Remington cases with Federal 205 GM 205 primers. 3350 Ft/Sec.. I use the Fireball rifles to pick on the prairie dogs that are around where I live. I use the 221 Fireball for shots out to about 225 Yds and the 17 Fireball for shots to about 300 Yds. I like the low muzzle blast and low recoil of the Fireball rifles and they both shoot under .75 inch groups at 100 Yds..

Per the Hodgdon's 2008 Annual Manual RELOADING page 80 the max load of Lil'Gun powder will push a 35 Gr V-m bullet out at 3550 ft/sec. The Max velocity listed for the 55 Gr bullet is 2944 ft/sec.. There is a lot of BS floating around gun shops and web sites..Some folks should go to www.remington.com clik on ammunition then ballistics where one can compare different ammo..The Rem 221 50 Gr bullet ammo is listed at 2995 ft/sec..

The fastest I have ever pushed any bullet out of a rifle was in a Remington 700 22 inch barrel 243 AI with a 55 gr bullet @ 4008 fps over a crony. Outlaw :^

the fastest caliber out there is the 220 swift. the 17s and 204s still havent takn the title away even though some advertise them to.
the swift pushes the 40gr vmax past 4200 in hornadys factory ammo. ive loaded vmaxes faster than this and let me tell you that is one smokn hot load.
to outlaws post.
id rather have 221 fireball or about any 22 caliber over the 17s. i just havnt found the light 17 bullets to be better than slower 55 gr 224 pills. and i have had 204 in the past.
one thing i do like is the 20s and 17 have less felt recoil wich makes them easier to stay on target when a round is squeezed off
