Default outlaws 257roberts ruger hawkey

outlaw recently picked up a new ruger hawkey in 257roberts. this model ruger has the new slimmer snazier walnut stock and matte finised 22" barrel and action. he mounted 4-12 leo on it and is shootn 100gr triple shocks for game smaller than moose and 75gr vmaxes for everything else.

ive been waiting to here his report on the rifle.

ive been thinkn about getn the same rifle and mounting a 2.5-8leo on it to serve as a lighter weight packn all around kids rifle and new toy for me. still have 10 years till my little girl is ready for huntin so ive got time.

Its been snowing and raining for the last month and as soon are it clears up a little I'll get to shoot it then and see what happens. In the mean time I'll do some reloading with the 257 rob with 100gr Barns Trip shocks and RL 15 powder. At about 3000 fps. Outlaw.

My old Ruger RL Mark II 20 inch barrel w/ Leupold Vari-XII scope likes The Nosler 115 Gr bullet with 40.5 Gr of IMR 4350 power in Remington cases , Fed 210 primers. Bullet free bore .025 inch.. Sited in at 2.75 inches high at 100 yards. Groups under one inch at 100 yards. Droped a mule deer with this load on 11-15-08.. Good luck with your 257 ---Tuck 2

Evan here

sorry yes Outlaw is haveing trouble logging in uder his name.

here are acubond loads for the 257 roberts.

110 acubond
aa3100 44.5 most acurate load at 2790 max is 46.5 at 2874
h4831sc min 42gr-2678 max 46gr-2868
imr4350 min 39gr-2645 max 43gr-2866

308
150gr acubond
viht N140 most acurate powder 42.5gr most acurate load and min at 2645 max 46.5gr-2887
varget min 44.5gr-2771 max 48.5gr-3001(compressed)
imr4831 min 48gr- 2570 max 52gr- 2750
imr4064 min 44gr- 2740 max 48gr- 2929

these are loads from nosler #6 use max loads with caution.

yes its has been confueseing seeing myself talking to myself. lol

tuck you useing the partition or balistic tip 115.

i feel the 115 balistic tip is another great bullet for the 257 roberts with max velocity of 2800 it would do great as meduim to long range load. and shouldnt tear up much at 100yds and under.

115 nosler balistic tip
imr 4350 min 36gr 2527( i bet this is a very very good low recoil load, kids load)
max 40gr 2806( faster longer range load very good in the wind.(most acurate load)

the 115 gr nosler bt has BC of .453 that is very good. the 115 tbarnes triple shock has a bc of 335 for comparision. the triple shock is turd at long range and in wind when compared to other bullets. though it is much tougher and will survive much larger game. the 100gr barnes 257 cal triple shock has BC of 370. its rare to see a lighter bulet with higher bc but the 100gr triple shock does and will shoot flatter and drift less in the wind than the 115. its also tough enough for anything the roberts will ever incounter.

these are also nosler book loads

im very interested in the 257 roberts as liget weight low recoil easy packing kids rifle and varmit gun. heck i love anything 25 cal.
