Scopes For Muzzleloaders

Hey Guys,
I am just getting into muzzleloading (in-line) and I am thinking of putting a scope on my 'new' rifle.
It's a CVA Hunter Mag. in-line bolt-action in .50cal.I'll be using PowerBelt .50cal in 245gr and/or 295gr copper jacketed bullets.
Anyway,I was thinking of a single power scope like 6×40mm (if I can find one) or even a RedDot type scope for under $100 on my muzzleloader for the fall hunting season.I will be doing a bit of practice shooting during the summer.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.
I know I should probably find a ML forum site and may still do so.

I would think that any of the cheaper scopes would do a good job. I shoot an Encore 209X50 Muzzleloader and I have it scoped with a Leupold VariXII 3X9X40 and it does a great job on the range and hunting. I like the varible for the range as my eyes are not as good as they once were. Good luck on your shooting and hunting.

Thanks for the info.I have been concerned since a driver for a supplier to our store told me that he put a shotgun scope on his ML and on his last shot of the day the scope fell apart internally.He sent the scope back to the manufacturer under warranty and was sent a replacement scope.This scope too fell apart after 3 target shots with non-magnum loads.

As far as your fixed power (6x40) goes, for ranges you'd be shooting you've got a good all around power in mind. Redfield and Weaver both make a good 6 power scope, one of my favs was a K6 6x40 Weaver that sat on a large ring 98 mauser in .30/06. I still hunt w/this rifle/scope combo and at moderate ranges, the 6x40 is all I need on whitetails. If I had to pick a fixed power scope, I would go w/the 6 power as they have enough mag. for moderate ranges and don't crowd you on closer shots. As for the red dot sights, I ain't particularly fond of 'em. I am prone to Murphy's Law, heck, he's my neighbor :blink: , w/my luck my batteries would die at the most in-opportune time

I have a Remington 700 ML in-line bolt action in a 50 cal and have it topped with a Redfield 3x9x40 wide angle view.

It's a very rugged scope and the clarity is hard to beat.
I had cheaper scopes on it,but they seemed a little fagile for the gun.Specially when i start shooting the 385 gr buffalo bullets.It really packs a whollope.

I shoot the black diamond 50 cal inline i use peterbelt 295gr bullets and put 100 gr of pellets in it and use the 209 primers in it i put a red dot scope on it and sighted it in at 100 yards got a nice deer at 95 yards the red dot was not expencive but it does the job have fun shooting irishman

Pt- First, congrats...I hunted w/ a flintlock and/or sidelock for YEARS until I finally got tired of my buddies making fun of me (even though I usually took more deer than they did!

rasp) )! I finally broke down and got an in-line...I opted for the Knight Disc Master Hunter. I put a Simmons Pro-diamond 1.5-5X40 Illuminated reticle Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope on and have absolutely LOVE it (I did start with a fixed 2X Simmons, but it just wasn't enough magnification)! For my money (only slightly over $100!) I don't think you can beat it!

I DO notice that yourself and others talk about 295gr. to even 385gr. bullets/sabots...just curious WHY!?!

I shoot 150grains of Pyrodex and 180gr Red-hot Sabots. From the research I did, and a little experimenting on my own...for medium size game, this is the way to go! I am shooting 2500+ fps out of a MUZZLELOADER which therefore shoots as flat as my 30.06 out to 150-200 yards! I have not had a whitetail go more than 20 yards...most don't go TWO FEET!

SPEED KILLS...hence the proliferation of the .45cal in-lines (although they aren't legal with sabots in Indiana!). Anyway, just my 2¢...hope it helps!

It funny how different the laws of some states are . Here in Oregon you can't use an inline muzzleloaders ,no scopes ,not even fiber optic sight . They even have restrictions on the type of ball or bullet you can use . I sold both of mine when I moved here because you couldn't hunt with them.
