Hello:
I love shooting my .30-30. Can you download a .30-30 with say perhaps 10 or 15 grains of powder and create a varmint load for say small critters? I read a piece in a book by Sam Fadala that appears to state this. Can anyone suggest or help? Terry |

Hi Terry,I do some reloading of my own.And over the years i've played around with differant charge weights. You can lighten your powder to a more pelt friendly load.Or shoot FMJ's or simular jacketed bullet. If you do go with the lighter loads be sure to resight in your rifle.

Terry You can reload lighter loads but you can also create a dangerous situation . If you go below the recommended powder charge , the whole charge could go at the same time and create what is called a flash burn . If the case is full as it should be the charge burns at a controled rate from back to front and not all at once . I have seen more than one gun damaged because of low powder charges . You might call the tech help number from some of the powder companies for help on your question . There are a few manuauls that list light loads ,Hornady does if my memory serves me correctly . Rojo
